NEW YORK | STATUE OF LIBERTY

Among many other things on my to do list, the iconic Statue of Liberty was an attraction I had to see during my trip to New York. Reading reviews and seeing photos online does not compare to seeing the Statue of Liberty in real life at all!

NOVEMBER | MONTHLY ROUNDUP

I wanted to start this new series because November 2015 was such an important month for me. I hit a few important milestones in the past month and I wanted to remember them by formally writing them up! In the month of December, I will also be ticking a few things off my bucket list so that's super exciting and something to look forward to as well.

I know quite a few bloggers who do monthly round ups and taking stock posts like these, but I really do have to give credit to Juliette over at Luar + Wolffdene, who has inspired me to start something like this!

Here's a look back into what happened in November:

ZEALONG TEA ESTATE | REVISITED

I took some time off last week to relax and what better way to do so than to get away from the busy streets of Auckland? We went on a small road trip with good food and an afternoon of relaxation on our minds. Where did we end up? The Zealong Tea Estate in Hamilton.

HOW TO DEAL WITH SICKNESS

... as you might have already guessed, i am feeling under the weather. this cold or flu or whatever this illness is, has hit me at the worst possible time. it's probably bad timing on my behalf, but i am in my second week of mid-semester holidays and i have three assessments due next week — all of which i have not started. but a) i thought i needed a well-deserved break after a long week of uni assessments before the break and b), i planned time to do my assessments in this second week. it's not my fault i caught the flu now right?!?!?

based on my personal experiences, general knowledge and research backed up by the internet, i have two lists for you today on how to deal with sickness.

WISHLIST: NOTEBOOK EDITION

hello!!!

some of you may already know that i have a slight obsession with stationery. recently, i have been loving notebooks, especially ones with blank pages because it offers so much flexibility for creative minds to flourish. i am particularly picky with lined notebooks because i prefer narrow ruled notebooks (it just looks neater and i like small handwriting) compared to the majority of notebooks out on the market that are large lined. i have since then made the move to blank notebooks for my uni books, and i have found that i am no longer restricted by the size of lines in my study, and i can doodle draw diagrams to my heart's content.

today i thought i would share the notebooks i am currently obsessing over and i hope you love them as much as i do!

BUNNY: MY FIRST CLAY PROJECT

it's the weekend!!!
... can you guess how long it took me to make this? from designing through to baking and painting this little bunny, it took around three hours. wooooooooooooooah. making little clay figurines was a lot harder than i thought.

because of the size, i constantly felt like my fingers were too big and clumsy for something that requires work down to the smallest detail. this process was also difficult because i couldn't imagine the end product during sculpting! everything looked the same because it hadn't been painted. i think i must've also painted around 20 white coats on this bunny since it didn't look that great with just one layer of paint...

i am so happy with the end product though! woohoo! i also have my initials etched onto it's little behind.

please let me know your thoughts! i know it needs improvement but i'd love to know what you think of my first clay creation. let me know if you want to see more!

i'd like to also thank suni from xoul creations for the materials and teaching me from beginning to end. check out the xoul creations etsy page here, where she sells her cute clay models!

i'll leave you with these adorable bunny gifs.
this one for all your bunny lovers and this one for all the people studying for exams. you're not alone!

hope you're having a good week,

CHILDHOOD DREAMS AND MEMORIES FT. A NOTE TO SELF

lighting is a little weird in this top photo so i'm sorry! on a side note, hello!!!
after talking to a childhood friend today, i felt a bit nostalgic and i went back to my old bedroom and started digging up memories. i have been using lists since i was an annoying-high-school-musical-and-hannah-montana-loving tween and above is just one example: my bucket list that i wrote when i think i was about thirteen years old??! i have also been dreaming about my future for as long as i can remember -- from my big wedding day to my career choices. it is just so so so fascinating looking back and thinking about how even though i was so small and naive, my dreams were still so big. i'm still the same person. my dreams are still as big now at twenty-one as they were at thirteen years of age.

A HAPPY 19TH + A D.I.Y PHOTO ALBUM

one of my close friends recently celebrated her 19th birthday so i used this opportunity to get a little creative! suni is a creative cat herself, so i thought she would definitely appreciate the thought and effort of this little gift! so with the sole purpose of trying to make her laugh, i set out on a mission to create a little d.i.y memory album.

after three hours of sleep, five of us woke up in an attempt to watch the sunrise. we saw most of the pink sky on the drive there, but unfortunately it was too cloudy for us to see most of it. we did however, spend the rest of the two hours we had until cafes opened, trying to convince the birthday girl to do a photoshoot. it sounds super lame but i had the time of my life with these four weirdos.

2015 VEGAN BIRTHDAY ADVENTURE

today i met up with two of my favourite people for our annual birthday adventure! we have become super good friends through work and we occasionally cook vegan meals together (my vegan adventure buddies woohoo!) the coolest thing though, is that all our birthdays are about ten days apart, so we decided to do something really special this year. both girls are entering the next decade in their lives (20!!!) and i turned the big twenty-one! definitely a reason to celebrate.

we had a $60 budget for each person and ended up combining our money together to get ultimate presents! it actually felt like christmas today with our huge pile of presents on our little table in the corner of the cafe. the most exciting thing for me though, was not getting the presents but watching both my girls open theirs! and we were all so stoked!
i drew a little picture of the presents i got because this is something that i want to remember forever. this is what blogs are for right?? i absolutely love my gifts and i actually feel ridiculously spoilt this year. birthdays are so special, and i hope you get spoiled just as much on yours!

21 + A CHEER ME UP MONDAY

if i put up all my photos from this night, this post would occupy numerous pages.
p.s. i apologise in advance for this post. it's a little more personal than usual.

guys i'm twenty one!!! i have written and rewritten this post multiple times and i'm still not certain that this post is exactly the way i want it. i'm not a big birthday fan, but it just felt wrong not to celebrate at all on the huge milestone of twenty one years. i didn't have a huge party with a hundred guests, but i did spend the night doing my favourite thing (eating, duh) with a few of my favourite people. honestly, that's all that matters.

i know a few of you have been asking for a cheer me up monday so i do have to include a few links for you!!! hope this makes your monday a little bit better:

1. 31 pictures that will make people with ocd fall in love
2. IS IT ICED COFFEE WEATHER? because i usually can't decide between my frappuccinos and hot coffees.
3. this is really a note to self because i need to clean out my wardrobe!!!! these are some handy tips for what to do when you have too many clothes.
4. potato lovers. you need to look at this!!!!
5. i will love the person who makes me this egg sandwich forever.
6. did someone just get pitch slapped?! i am already in love.
7. life altering iphone tips for all you apple lovers out there (including me!).
8. i went to see cinderella at a chicks at the flicks night with two of my fave girls! let's just say we were swooning the entire movie. definitely recommend!!!
9. remember flappy bird? this is flapmmo, the exact same game except this time you compete with other people playing at the same time. see how far you get compared to everyone else!
10. i don't think it would be a cheer me up monday without cute animals gifs. here's one very happy bunny. this cute little kitten alarm clockpuppies puppies puppies.

also, turning twenty one means i'm officially an adult! i'm still learning from my mistakes and still trying to find my own happiness. but i do want to say that even though it took me a while to get here, i can finally say that i am happy. i am happy with the people i have chosen to surround myself with, i am happy with my close relationships, i am happy with the person i've become. i have never been more sure of what i am passionate about, whether it be hobbies (this blog) or my future. i'm not sure whether my attitude towards life has just changed, but i'm definitely feeling more positive. this is so cliche, but 2015 is my year and i can't wait to watch the rest of the year unfold!

hope you enjoy the rest of your week!

FIRST ADVENTURE OF 2015: WENDERHOLM

the first adventure of 2015 happened yesterday!!
we went to wenderholm regional park and followed one of the trails up to a look out. it took like 20 minutes to walk up and we were already tired after five minutes omg haha but it was steep i promise!!! we are just two couch potatoes trying to get fit and we are slowly getting there! slowly.

wenderholm regional park had everything: walking trails, a really calm and sandy beach (no stones and pebbles that hurt your feet!), a river where people fish and kayak, barbecues that anyone could use, rocks where we assumed people fish off, and lots and lots of grass and open space. the views from the top of the look outs were a-mazing. excuse the messy hair but it was the most perfect sunny day ever. you know how it feels when you go for a swim when you're all flustered and hot after tanning on the beach? well we went for a dip straight after our walk and it was actually the best thing ever.

definitely going here again! bring a packed lunch or some meat for the barbecue and make sure you have coins for the ice-cream van!!!! hope everyone is having a good summer! x
